Gerdus is a registered professional civil engineer with more than 25 years of experience. He has extensive knowledge of engineering and design aspects of civil and structural work in the mining and industrial environment.

After graduation, Gerdus spent 8 years at Sastech Civil Design. In this period he was exposed to and responsible for the design and management aspects of various industrial structures in the oil&gas processing environment, including a coke from coal plant, a 5km 900mm diameter steel pipeline and a major upgrading of Sasol’s air separation plants.

Since its inception in 1995, Gerdus has been a director of LBE. His initial duties included taking leadership of all projects being executed in the company. Major projects include rail loading facilities, a spiral reverse osmosis plant, infrastructure for an Alfa Olefins plans, Sulphur handling plants, a new Air Separation plant and a Polypropylene plant.

In 2007, Gerdus established an office for LBE in Centurion. To date, the Centurion office has been involved in projects at the Medupi and Kusile Power Stations, Ankerlig and Gourikwa Power Plants, Expansion of the NPC Simuma Plant, as well as several projects at Sasol Secunda.

LBE became a subsidiary company of the NAKO Group in March 2014. Gerdus represented NAKO LBE during the establishment of NAKO Group and serves on both Boards.

Mr Fongoqa graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand with a BSc Engineering in 1988 and a Graduate Diploma in Engineering in 1990. Over the years, he has worked for a range of highly reputable consulting engineering firms in South Africa, starting as assistant engineer and progressing to junior design engineer, project engineer and project leader. In 1994, he was promoted to the position of associate at HKS Law Gibb (now Gibb Engineering and Science).

His association with ILISO Consulting goes back to February 1995, when he became the founding member of the firm Fongoqa Skade Toyi and Associates. In November 2000, this firm joined forces with Boonzaaier Dotwana and Associates to form ILISO Consulting, at which time Mr Fongoqa was appointed a director of the merging entity, becoming managing director in June 2001, and CEO in August 2004. He managed the consolidation of the merged entity while ensuring a remarkable growth in capacity, expertise, turnover and profitability for the firm. Today, ILISO Consulting is established as a strong brand, an employer of choice and investor in people.

Mr Fongoqa has served on a number of boards and community-based development organisations, including Amatola Water, Eastern Cape Provincial Housing Board, Mdantsane Community Development Trust and the Border-Kei Development Forum. He has also served on a number of professional bodies and learned societies in various capacities, including: The South African Institute of Civil Engineers (SAICE), South African Black Technical and Allied Careers Organisation (SABTACO) and Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA).

Mr Fongoqa is the Executive Chairman of NAKO Group and NAKO ILISO, Chairman of the Construction Sector Charter Council (CSCC RSA, Director at both NAKO LBE and NAKO Triocon and Mentor in the FIDIC Young Professionals Management Training Programme.

Anton commenced his career as a design engineer with Sastech where he was involved in numerous projects involving concrete and steel structures including the foundation systems. He joined LBE when it was founded and has been a director since 2001. Anton is the office manager in Centurion, he takes the lead in the design and analysis of structures at LBE as well as the skills development and knowledge sharing of structural personnel.

Anton has been responsible for the structural analysis and design of various industrial structures ranging from conveyors and transfer towers to compressor foundations and major equipment housing structures, such as the structures needed for large reactors, chemical plant structures, cement factory structures, blast resistant structures and connection designs for the boiler structures at the Medupi Power Plant (where he created in-house software to design more than 60 000 connections).

The IT systems are maintained, adapted and developed by Anton, utilizing CADD systems, databases, Microsoft Office software, freeware, web servers and in-house developed programming. The programming languages include Visual Basic for Applications (in Access, Excel, Outlook and MicroStation), VBScript, ASP, HTML, SQL and XML.Anton initiated a long term project where LBE develop and maintain a GIS for the Sasol Secunda factory.

Frits is a registered professional engineer with more than 24 years’ experience in the engineering industry. He has been involved in various projects in the energy, mining and oil & gas industries. He has also gained experience on commercial, municipal infrastructure and government projects.

His technical expertise includes extensive experience in the civil/structural engineering design; subcontractor appointment and supervision in the civil/structural engineering industry; contract administration from tender stage to hand over in the civil/structural engineering
industry and in the fertilizer, LNG, oil and gas, energy and mining industries.

His management expertise includes project management on civil engineering infrastructure projects; management of civil/structural/architectural department of an international company; civil/structural lead on various major projects and studies in engineering management.

Eldred Boonzaaier Pr Eng

Eldred Boonzaaier Pr Eng

Eldred Boonzaaier graduated with a BSc Engineering after which he gained 30 years of experience as a professional civil and structural engineer. He has further broadened his design experience to cover other aspects of civil engineering as well as project management. He has also completed post graduate Diplomas in Datametrics (Computer and Information Systems) and Financial Management from UNISA.

In addition he has also completed numerous industry related short course in the pursuit of continuous professional development.In April 1997 he started a consulting firm, Eldred Boonzaaier Consulting Engineers. In June 1998 Eldred Boonzaaier and Loyiso Dotwana merged their consulting engineering practices to form Boonzaaier Dotwana & Associates.

In November 2000 Boonzaaier Dotwana and Associates merged with Fongoqa Skade Toyi and Associates to form ILISO Consulting at which time he was appointed financial director for ILISO Consulting.He currently is also the head of the structures Discipline Group at ILISO Consulting. When the NAKO Group was formed in 2015 Eldred was also appointed as the Finance Director of the NAKO Group.

Eldred has broad experience in Labour intensive construction, township municipal services, gravel roads, structural engineering, project management, financial management, contract administration, business, commercial, operational and strategic imperatives.

Nolan Pillay Pr Eng

Nolan Pillay Pr Eng

Nolan Pillay graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal with a BSc Civil Engineering degree in 2002. He started his professional career in 2003 as a Design Engineer, working on various projects, involving concrete and steel structures in the commercial and light industrial sectors. He joined NAKO LBE in July 2007, as Structural Engineer at their Centurion office. At NAKO LBE, Nolan gained exposure to the oil & gas, power generation and mining sectors. This valuable experience coupled with his dedication and hard work, resulted in Nolan obtaining his Master’s degree from the University of Witwatersrand in 2010. He then registered as Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) in 2011.

Since Nolan’s professional registration, his duties evolved to managing and leading engineering teams from project inception to close-out stages. Nolan is actively involved in NAKO LBE’s business development - building and maintaining client relationships and marketing NAKO LBE's engineering capabilities to current and prospective clients.
